The instruments that refuse a category. A Mellotron is not a synth, not a sampler in any modern sense and certainly not a piano. It's a bank of tape strips, one per key, played by a motor and a head, with a note length limited by how long the tape is. Everything here works on its own terms, so compare what the instrument actually does before anything else, then the key count and the action.
